MY FIRST DOG SHOW

Author: Kendra Petrie

Along with my Standard Poodle Sonny and a phantom Miniature Poodle puppy named Haley, I entered my first United Kennel Club dog show held in Madras, Oregon on August 24-26, 2007. It was my first time showing a dog, and I was really nervous. When the judge called my number, I had no time to worry about the fact that I had never shown a dog in competition before. My puppy Haley was ready to please. When we walked into the ring, we did everything just as we had practiced all summer. I walked her around and stacked her on the table, and tried to make this new experience fun for both of us.

After being in the ring for the first time, I couldn’t wait to go back in. When they called my number once more, all nervousness was gone. I walked in knowing that I would win since I had the only dog entered in that class. (With the only Junior Male Standard Poodle, I automatically got first place.) Next, I went into the Gun Dog Group and was awarded Best Standard Poodle.

Now that I’ve shown in one UKC show, I’m ready to go to another knowing that my dogs are beautiful and have a chance to win.
