Showing Poodles In GermanyAuthor: Claudia Jachmann I live in beautiful Papenburg, a city in the district of Emsland (in Lower Saxony) on the river Ems in Germany. It is known for its large shipyard, the Meyer-Werft, which specializes in building cruise liners. My passion is the Klein and Dwarf harlequin (black and white parti) Poodles. It began with our males which I have showed successfully since 1999. We received our first bitch in 2003, and she is the foundation of our breeding program. She had her first litter in 2005. There is now a future for the black and white parti and black and tan phantom Poodles. Before 2007, we could not get a pedigree from the VDH/FCI for the harlequins and the black and tans; however, these colors were allowed in the special register of the individual Poodle clubs and, consequently, judged for VDH championships. As of 2007, we can now get these signed and stamped pedigrees. Originally, we could only show the parti-colored Poodles at internal classes that each club sanctioned. Now, partis and black and tans can compete for CAC’s for German Champion titles the same as the solids, although still only in their own classes. We can show under any of the four recognized Poodle clubs affiliated with the VDH (DPK – Deutscher Pudel-Klub e.V., VDP – Verband der Pudelfreunde Deutschland e.V., ADP – Allgemeiner Deutscher Pudelclub, PZV – Pudel- Zucht-Verband 82 e.V.) We used to be able to show only in the following classes:
Youth – class for Poodles 9-18 months old Open – class for Poodles 15 months and older Veterans – class for Poodles 8 years and older Now, we are able to obtain titles in these classes. In the Youngest Class we must go in front of three different judges and win three separate certificates to become a Youngest Winner. In Youth Class we must go in front of three different judges and win three separate certificates to become a Youth Winner. In the Open Class, we can get two titles: 1) Club Winner, and 2) New Color Winner. To attain Club Winner, we need three KSA (three Club winning certificates) or three CAC (Certificate of Aptitude for Champion) from three different judges, and to get the New Color (harlequin or black and tan) Winner, we need four certificates from three different judges. One must receive these Certificates from the VDH shows or from a show of one of the other four affiliate clubs. A year and a day must pass between achieving the first Certificate and the last Certificate. In the Champion Class, we are required to receive three S-CAC certificates from three different judges to attain the title of Champion. Veterans Class requires three V-CAC Certificates from three different judges, without a time limit, to receive a Veterans Champion title.
The German FCI-Kennel Club (VDH) has decided to officially accept the harlequin and black and tan Poodles for national recognition. This means that, from October 2008 onward, the black/white parti and the black/tan phantoms will be allowed to be shown at every national and international dog show organized by the VDH including the German Winner Show and European Winner Show. They can also compete in their own class (not together with solid-colors) for the German Champion Title given by the VDH (this wasn’t possible before, the parti-colors were only able to get special club titles). The only difference now between the solids and the partis will be that the partis cannot get any certificates for the International Champion titles from the FCI because they aren’t currently recognized by the FCI. This is a huge step toward the acceptance of the black/white parti and black/tan phantom Poodles. We hope that this trend will continue and that other countries will join in. It will be a difficult and stormy path to get France (FCI) to recognize the parti-colored Poodle, but the road has now been paved.

We and our Poodles are now actors! In the movie, Antony and his Pinscher compete against the Poodles in a Mobbyclass tour (an agility class course). Antony ran through the course very fast, crawled through the tunnels, etc. and was simply funny; however, his little Pinscher girl did not know what to do. In the end, Antony ran the course by himself and, as a reward, received a medal and a very large bone. What a funny man! The movie will be on German television in the fall. I hope you all eventually get to watch it!
