An Update on the Parti Poodle in FranceFrom an article published in the Nice Matin on Friday, August 22, 2008
Written by reporter Christine Rinaudo
On Friday the 22nd of August, Nice Matin, a major newspaper in Nice, devoted a half-page article written by Christine Rinaudo announcing the new Association set up in France by Valerie Lea and Natalie Bernard devoted to achieving recognition for the parti Poodle: the parti has been banned and rejected by the French Poodle Club. The article was complemented by a wonderful color picture of Valerie Lea’s Cheyenne. Mme Rinaudo wrote: “However, this dog, gracious, elegant, intelligent, active, and very enchanting, was not born in the last rain.” As explained to Mme. Rinaudo by Valerie Lea: “The parti has existed for a long time as attested to by numerous references in literature and paintings, notably from drawings first seen in the 11th century.” Thanks to the tenacity of several breeders, the parti Poodle was in great demand – that is, until World War II. Then suddenly, the parti was no longer allowed! The purists of the single color Poodle decided to classify the bicolor Poodle as a totally unacceptable defect in the standard for Poodles. The parti disappeared from shows, and its extinction was practically total. Less irrational, less racist, several English breeders, totally charmed by the parti Poodle, worked together to continue the breeding of the parti Poodle. Thus it is in great part thanks to their lines that we can today find these wonderful Poodles from abroad. In the United States, Canada, Germany, and Australia, the parti is recognized as a true Poodle with the appropriate pedigree. Recently, several parti Poodles from other countries have been introduced into France. Nathalie Bernard, who has recently begun breeding partis, after waiting several weeks, whelped her first parti litter. Her female Youta delivered four puppies, and today placed two of the puppies with the School for the Blind, one in Eze, and one in Corsica. Three additional partis, dwarfs, have arrived from Germany to provide more breeding options. * * * And More News From France * * *
Written by Valerie Lea We have not been standing still in our campaign to have the bicolor Poodle recognized in France. Following the superb article (see above) which appeared in all the newspapers on the Cote dÁzur, we were contacted by Marie Paule DANIELS, author of a work on the Poodle, published with the Editions De Vecchi. This work is currently being republished, and the author sincerely hopes to add photographs of our two-tone Poodles. As I will be in Paris at the end of September, I have a meeting with the photographer of the Editions of Vecchi to take (my Standard parti Poodle) Cheyenne in to be photographed. But there is MORE! On several occasions, we have tried in vain to contact 30 Million Friends to speak to them about us (http://www.30millionsdamis.fr/). We have finally just been contacted by François BIROU, journalist to 30 Million Friends who wishes to write an article about our parti Poodles! We are very happy with all the work that Nathalie has done to draw attention to our parti Poodles. As a result of our efforts to gain recognition, many requests for information are just beginning to arrive. We put so much energy, hope, and passion in our effort to publicize the parti Poodle! We will continue to keep you informed. Nos caniches bicolores
