The United Kennel Club Premier show is over for another year. The UKC is a very progressive club and continues to improve. Around the world, each year UKC shows are increasing thus making it easier to find one closer to home. The relaxed atmosphere of conformation showing in UKC is such a joy. With no professional handlers allowed, every person has the opportunity to showcase his or her own Poodle.

Even though conformation showing is relatively new to UKC shows, each year we see more knowledgeable judging. This reflects in the conformation ring as the quality of Poodles continues to improve. It is really exciting to be part of such a progressive Club; one that is always seeking ways to improve; one that encourages its members to be active with their dogs.

UKC has added a new program that encourages people to show their own Poodles.

What Dogs Are Eligible?

UKC purebred litter-registered puppies sired by a “UKC Merit Club Sire” nominated for the calendar year in which the pup was whelped and whose litter was nominated. Dogs must be permanently registered and permanent nomination completed before the twenty-fourth month of age.

What Steps Are Involved?

Nominate a “UKC Merit Club Sire”
• Breed to a “UKC Merit Club Sire”
• Nominate the litter
• Nominate and permanently register the individual dog
• Go to UKC licensed events and earn degrees to earn UKC Merit Club points.

How Is Money Paid Out?

Premium money is paid out at the end of each year based on UKC Merit Club points earned that year. Each dog’s payout is divided as follows:
• 20% to the owner of the “UKC Merit Club Sire”
• 20% to the owner of the litter on file at UKC
• 60% to the owner of the dog on file at UKC
